Fifty-two percent of Virginia Medicaid emergency department visits for dental problems in 2018 were non-traumatic. Non-traumatic dental injuries include those that could have been prevented or treated in a dental clinic. In total, 2% of all Virginia Medicaid emergency department visits were for dental problems in 2018. A total of 16,000 Medicaid members visited the emergency department for dental-related procedures 19,000 times.
