Up To 6 Million Households Could Face Tax Penalties For Being Uninsured
Up to 6 million households could face tax penalties for being uninsured during 2014. The penalty is $95 per adult and $47.50 for a child under age 18. The federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) estimate that about 25% of tax filers will have health insurance-related complications to their tax forms. The remaining 75% will be able to simply check a box to affirm that they had qualifying health insurance for all of 2014.
