Iowa Medicaid Launches Managed Care Initiative April 1, 2016

On April 1, 2016, the Iowa Medicaid IA Health Link managed care program launched operations; the managed care organizations (MCOs) include Amerigroup Iowa, Inc.; AmeriHealth Caritas Iowa, Inc.; and UnitedHealthcare Plan of the River Valley, Inc. The three organizations are managing integrated physical and behavioral health care services for about 560,000 state residents. Enrollment in IA Health Link is mandatory for the majority of the Iowa Medicaid, Medicaid expansion, and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) populations. Medicaid beneficiaries have a choice of all three IA Health Link plans in each region of the state (East, Central, West).
