90% Of Nation’s Large Employers Offer Telehealth As A Benefit
Between 2012 and 2017, the percentage of employers offering telehealth services rose from just seven percent to 90%, including 34% which offer behavioral telehealth services. This growth is driven both by health plans including telehealth as a part of their services, and 31% of large employers directly contracting with telehealth vendors. Consumer utilization rates in 2015 averaged one percent of eligible employees, while in the first half of 2016, three percent of employees have already utilized their telehealth benefit. Ninety-seven percent of employers are expected to offer telehealth by 2019.
