Adolescent Cannabis Use Disorder Linked To 52% Higher Schizophrenia Risk Compared To Other Substance Use Disorders
Youth with cannabis use disorder (CUD) have a 52% higher risk of developing schizophrenia compared to youth with other substance use disorders (SUDs), according to a study published in The American Journal of Psychiatry. Youth with CUD also had a 30% higher risk of depression and a 21% higher risk of anxiety disorders.
The study compared the risk of mental disorders between individuals with CUD and those with other SUDs using medical records from the TriNetX Research Network.
