Anthem To Acquire Cigna For $54 Billion

On July 24, 2015, Anthem Inc. and Cigna Corporation announced a definitive agreement in which Anthem will acquire Cigna for $54 billion. The combined company will cover more than 53 million people currently covered through Anthem or Cigna’s commercial, government, consumer, and specialty businesses. The acquisition will combine Anthem’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield business in 14 states and its Medicaid business in 19 states via its Amerigroup brand with Cigna’s portfolio of health and protection services in the U.S. and globally.
