California Adds Pharmacist Medication Therapy Management Services As A New Benefit For Medicaid Beneficiaries

Medi-Cal, the California Medicaid program, is contracting for pharmacist medication therapy management (MTM) as a covered benefit. Initially, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) will contract for MTM services related to chronic illness such has HIV/AIDS, cancer, hemophilia, and diabetes, and serious mental health conditions such as psychosis and bipolar disorder.

The services are for Medi-Cal beneficiaries diagnosed with the qualifying conditions, who are receiving care from multiple prescribers, taking five or more medications (including prescription and non-prescription medications, herbal products, or other dietary supplements), and who have demonstrated non-adherence to a medication . . .
