On June 30, 2022, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a fiscal 2023 budget that provides $628 million to extend Medi-Cal (California Medicaid) eligibility to an estimated 698,000 undocumented residents, regardless of age, effective January 1, 2024. The goal is to provide universal access to affordable health coverage for lower-income individuals by providing coverage for Californians ages 26 to 49, regardless of immigration status. All other Medi-Cal eligibility rules, including income limits, will still apply.
