California Pay-For-Performance Program Linked To Better Quality Of Care, 3% Total Cost Growth

California physician groups participating in a pay-for-performance (P4P) program operated by the Integrated Healthcare Association in California have improved their clinical quality of care. The program increased cost of care by 3%.

Between 2008 and 2015, the more than 200 participating physician groups have made steady incremental performance gains on clinical quality measures. Clinical quality performance for this program is assessed via 24 measures in five domains: cardiovascular (4 measures), diabetes care (8 measures), musculoskeletal (1 measure), preventive services (8 measures), and respiratory (3 measures).  The patient experience measures include individual ratings of doctor-patient interaction, timely care . . .
