California To Discontinue Child Health & Disability Prevention Program, Expand Presumptive Eligibility

California Governor Gavin Newsom proposed discontinuing the Medicaid Child Health and Disability Program (CHDP) by July 1, 2023, and allowing more Medi-Cal (California’s Medicaid program) provider organizations to make presumptive eligibility determinations. The goal is to expand access to Medi-Cal for more children and youth. Currently, presumptive eligibility determinations can be made only by existing CHDP Gateway provider organizations and Hospital Presumptive Eligibility provider organizations.
