CDC Adds About 1,900 New ICD-10 Diagnosis Codes; 19 Specific To Behavioral Disorders

On March 9, 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee released nearly 1,900 new clinical diagnosis codes to be added to the ICD-10 system, and 19 are specific to behavioral health. The codes also include items for conditions to be added to the ICD-10 system in fiscal year 2017 – such as diabetes, eye diseases, and lower joint issues. In addition to the new diagnosis codes, more than 3,600 inpatient procedure codes will be added. The new codes will be implemented on October 1, 2016.
