CMS Proposes Advanced ACO Shared Savings Payments For Social Needs

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is proposing to provide advanced payments to Medicare Shared Savings Program accountable care organizations (ACOs) to address social needs. The advance investment payments would be recouped by CMS once the ACO begins to achieve shared savings in their current agreement period and in their next agreement period, if a balance persists. The proposed initial application cycle to apply for advance investment payments would occur during calendar year 2023 for a January 1, 2024, start date.
