After prescribers adopted e-prescribing technology with a decision support function, a greater proportion of prescribers selected 90-day prescriptions rather than shorter supply prescriptions for medications needed for chronic condition management. E-prescribing technology with decision support alerts the prescriber about safety issues with a selected medication and about recommended quantity options for certain health conditions, and allows the prescriber to make changes before transmitting the prescription to the consumer’s pharmacy.
