CMS Proposes Ending Standardized Plan Requirements For 2027 ACA Marketplace Plans
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed eliminating requirements that health plans in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces offer standardized plan options for the 2027 plan year. Standardized plan options have the same cost-sharing structures (deductibles and copayments) to simplify consumer comparison shopping. The standarized plan requirement was added in 2023.
The proposed rule would also remove current limits on the number of non-standardized plan options insurers can offer. These changes would affect insurers, state exchanges, brokers, and the millions of Americans who rely on health plans sold through the federal and state ACA . . .
