15% of Small Employers Offering Health Insurance Dropped Coverage In 2015; 35% Of Small Employers Offer Health Insurance
Between 2014 and 2015, 14.6% of small employers (50 or fewer workers) that had offered insurance dropped it. During the same period, 5.5% of small employers who had not previously offered insurance, added insurance. Offering health insurance is defined as offering at least one plan that included hospital and medical coverage. In both years, about one-third of small employers offered health insurance; in 2014, 34.8% of small employers offered insurance, and 65.2% did not.
