Indiana Adds Medicaid Work Requirement To Waiver Request

On May 24, 2017, the Indiana Medicaid program submitted a waiver amendment to add work requirements to the state’s Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) Section 1115 Waiver program. If approved, HIP enrollees would be required to participate Gateway to Work for at least five hours per week after being enrolled in Medicaid for six months, unless the individual is already working, enrolled as a full- or- part-time student, or participating in addiction treatment. The required work hours would increase gradually to reach a requirement of 20 hours per week for those enrolled for 18 months or longer.
