Kent County, Michigan, Launches Truancy Court Pilot Program
Kent County in Michigan recently launched a Truancy Court pilot program to address student absenteeism. The State of Michigan 17th Circuit Court announced the launch on February 16, 2017; it will initially focus on students in the Wyoming and Godwin Heights school districts. The goal is to connect students and their families with community-based services to overcome attendance barriers.
The Truancy Court pilot program provides up to 20 attorneys working pro bono for the students. Those students and families needing services will have access through Network180 and the Circuit Court’s Crisis Intervention Program.
