About 41% of all births in the United States are covered by Medicaid in 2021, according to data released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Across the states, the percentages ranged from 21.7% to 67.0%.

The states with the lowest percentages of births covered by Medicaid (21.7% to 34.5%) were Idaho, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.

The states with the highest percentages of births covered by Medicaid (45.7% to 67.0%) were Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico . . .
