Medicare ICD-10 Deadline Is October 1; Surveys Indicate Less Than Half Of Physician Practices & Provider Organizations Are Ready

A survey of Medicare professionals and provider organizations in July and August 2015 indicate that less than half felt ready to start submitting claims using the International Disease Classification (ICD)-10 codes medical diagnoses and inpatient hospital procedures by the October 1, 2015 implementation deadline. After September 30, 2015, the Medicare claims processing system will not have the ability to accept clams submitted with ICD-9 codes or accept claims that contain both ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes.
