Michigan Secures CMS Waiver To Continue & Modify Its Medicaid Expansion

On December 17, 2015, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approved Michigan’s 1115 waiver, Healthy Michigan Plan, for an additional three years. Without CMS approval, the program would have expired in April 2016. However, the Medicaid expansion program approved in the waiver differs from the current Medicaid expansion program in two key areas – cost-sharing and delivery system. The changes only affect individuals with income over 100% of the FPL and will not be implemented until April 2018.
