New Military Health System Policy Allows Telemedicine At Home

Based on a new policy, the Department of Defense (DoD), Military Health System (MHS) is now permitting telehealth services to be delivered in service members' homes. On February 3, 2016, the MHS issued a memo stating that homes can be considered as an appropriate service delivery site for telemedicine. The announcement follows up on 2011 legislation, known as the Service Members Telemedicine & eHealth Portability (STEP) Act, which removed a federal requirement that any health care be delivered in a military treatment facility.
