Minnesota Child Abuse Reports Involving Prenatal Opioid Exposure Up 25% Between 2015 & 2016

On April 11, 2017, the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) announced that child abuse reports involving prenatal opioid exposure increased by 25% between 2015 and 2016, rising from 1,056 in 2015 to 1,330 in 2016. In 2015, the Minnesota Division of Children and Family Services (CFS) received maltreatment reports involving 30,209 children, and the 1,056 reports involving prenatal opioid exposure represented 3.5% of all reports. In 2016 CFS received reports involving 39,500 children, and the 1,330 reports involving prenatal opioid exposure represented 3.3% of all reports.
