Minnesota Hospitals Report 6.3% Drop In Uncompensated Care During 2014
During 2014, Minnesota hospitals provided $294 million in uncompensated care, 6.3% less than the $313.7 million provided the previous year. Uncompensated care is made up of two components: bad debt and charity care (free or discounted care for eligible individuals). Between 2013 and 2014, bad debt increased by 9.4%, from $159.3 million to $174.2 million. During the same period, charity care decreased by 22.4%, from $154.4 million to 119.8 million.
