Mississippi Foster Care System Agreement Postpones Hearing On Receivership Until October 2016
On May 19, 2016, the federal judge in the Olivia Y Mississippi foster care class-action settlement approved an agreement that will postpone court action on receivership until October 17, 2016, as long as the state complies with the original court order. The state acknowledged that it would “not contest a finding of noncompliance” for the most recent period, which ran through June 2015. During this reprieve, the state agreed to take on a number of additional commitments recommended by an expert consulting group as part of the pending contempt motion filed in March 2015.
