New Hampshire To Shorten Processing Time For Mental Health Provider Credentialing To 30 Days, Achieving Parity With Primary Care

New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte signed legislation that directs commercial health insurers to process credentialing applications from mental health professionals within 30 days, which is the same timeline as for primary care physicians. The legislation, House Bill 507, signed on May 21, 2025, will take effect on January 1, 2026. Currently, health plans have 45 days to credential mental health professionals, which is the same length of time as for specialists. The law is intended to help expand access to mental health care by enabling qualified providers to reach people more quickly.
