New Indiana Law Allows Foster Youth To Remain On Medicaid Through Age 26
A new Indiana law allows certain foster youth to continue receiving Medicaid benefits through age 26. Indiana Senate Bill 497 (Medicaid for Former Foster Youth) will act as part of the individuals' transitional services plan out of the foster care system. It was signed into law on April 21, 2017, and goes into effect on July 1, 2017.
Under the new law, Medicaid eligibility will be automatically offered to two groups of young adults who are in foster care situations without permanent families when they turn 18 (age of emancipation):
