New York Home Care Workers Awarded $30 Million For Unpaid Wages
An arbitrator has ordered 42 home care provider organizations to create a $30 million Special Wage Fund for a grievance between New York-based 1199th Service Employees International Union (1199SEIU) United Healthcare Workers East home care workers and their employers. This fund will be used to repay the workers for interruptions to their sleep and meal breaks while working 24-hour cases, and for overtime worked between January and October 2015. The Special Wage Fund will be funded and distributed by August 2022.
