Older Adults With Hearing Loss Using Hearing Aids Have Reduced Dementia Risk

Older adults with hearing loss (HL) who use hearing aids have a significantly lower risk for dementia, compared to those with hearing loss who do not use hearing aids, according to a recent study. Early intervention for HL is important in determining the possibility of early prevention of dementia, the researchers concluded.

People with HL who used hearing aids had 61% lower dementia risk compared to people with hearing loss who did not use hearing aids, according to the study. Those with normal hearing had a 29% lower risk of dementia than those with HL who did not use hearing . . .
