About One-Fourth Of Medicare ACOs Earned Shared Savings Bonuses

On August 25, 2015, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that about 25% of Medicare accountable care organizations (ACOs) earned shared savings bonuses for their 2014 financial and quality performance. In 2014, 20 Pioneer ACOs and 333 Shared Savings Program ACOs generated more than $411 million in savings, which includes all ACOs savings and losses. In total, 97 of the ACOs that generated savings above their savings threshold and met quality standards qualified for shared savings payments of more than $422 million in savings.
