Pennsylvania Implements New Nursing Home Minimum Staffing Requirements
On July 1, 2023, the Pennsylvania Department of Health implemented new staffing requirements for the state’s nearly 700 long-term care facilities (skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), commonly referred to as nursing homes). Long-term care facilities are now required to provide each resident with at least 2.87 hours of direct care per day. On July 1, 2024, the minimum will increase to 3.2 direct care hours per resident per day. The goal of the new staffing requirements is to create safer environments at long-term care facilities, and help retain and recruit professionals in the industry.
