Racial & Ethnic Disparities In Medicaid Diabetes Monitoring Persist Despite Diabetes Disease Management Program

After participation in a telephonic diabetes-focused disease management program, racial and ethnic disparities persisted in the rates at which adult Medicaid beneficiaries with diabetes received at least one hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test, LDL-cholesterol test, and retinal examination per year. Before starting the intervention, about 83% of whites received at least one annual HbA1c test, compared to 66% of African-Americans, 77% of Latinos, and 82% of Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders.
