South Carolina Seeks Expedited Approval Of Medicaid Coverage For Working Parent & Work Requirements For Certain Residents
On January 21, 2025, South Carolina Governor Dargan McMaster announced a proposal seeking to expedite approval from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of a new Section 1115 demonstration which would extend Medicaid eligibility to 100% of the federal poverty level (FPL) for parents who are working or going to school. Under South Carolina’s existing eligibility rules, parents no longer qualify for Medicaid if they make more than 67% FPL. The work and school community engagement and work requirements would only apply to parents with income between 67% and 100% FPL.
