Texas Uninsured Population Drops 31% Between September 2013 & March 2015
Between September 2013 and March 2015, the percentage of uninsured adults between ages 18 and 64 in Texas dropped by 31%. In September 2013, 25% of the non-elderly adult population was uninsured. By March 2015, 16.9% were uninsured. The decrease was attributed to enrollments in health plans offered through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace. Texas has not expanded Medicaid eligibility to low-income uninsured non-elderly, non-disabled childless adults earning 138% or less than the federal poverty level (FPL).
