Universal American & Sharp Healthcare Exit Medicare ACO Program

In June and July 2014, Universal American and Sharp Healthcare issued financial statements that they planned to exit their contracts as Medicare Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) due to cost concerns. In Universal American’s July 29, 2014 investor statement for the second quarter, the company it had exited three of its 34 Medicare Shared Savings Program ACOs, and may exit more of the remaining 30 ACOs.
