Updated Federal Health IT Strategic Plan Focuses On Person-Centered Care

On September 21, 2015, the federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) updated its federal health information technology (IT) strategic plan to focus on ensuring person-centered care. Previous versions of the plan had focused primarily on expanding the adoption rate for electronic health records (EHRs). The new version has four goals: advancing person-centered and self-managed care, transforming health care delivery and community health; improving research and innovation efforts; and enhancing the national health IT infrastructure.
