Ventura County Review Finds Fault With County Health System EHR Implementation
The California-based Ventura County Health Care Agency (VCHCA) process to implement its new electronic health record (EHR) system was flawed, according to a review by another county entity. VCHCA began the process in 2009, but the system was not ready to use until July 1, 2013, when it went live in two county hospitals and 40 clinics. However, delays in the procurement and implementation process reduced the amount of time available for hardware compatibility testing and staff training before the system went live. As a result, patient care and billing processes were affected by inefficiencies and delay.
