VA REACH VET Program Best Model For Identifying Veterans At Greater Risk Of Suicide

About 76% of veterans identified as at-risk of suicide by a predictive analytics program used by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) were not flagged as at-risk by other VHA screening programs. The predictive analytics program is called Recovery Engagement and Coordination for Health-Veterans Enhanced Treatment (REACH VET); the VHA began using it in 2017.

The REACH VET program model uses 61 variables in five domains to analyze veterans’ electronic health records each month at each VHA facility to identify veterans who are at the greatest statistical risk of suicide. The domains include demographics, prior suicide attempts, diagnoses . . .
