Veterans Health Administration To Adopt Same Cerner EHR System As DoD

On June 5, 2017, U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) David J. Shulkin, M.D., announced that the VA will adopt an electronic health record (EHR) system similar to the one being used by the Department of Defense (DoD). The DoD EHR is called MHS GENESIS, which at its core consists of Cerner’s Millennium EHR technology. The VA EHR will use the Cerner Millennium platform, but unlike the DoD EHR, the VA EHR will be interoperable with the many different information technology platforms used by the VA’s academic affiliates and community partners.
