Virginia Medicaid reimbursements to 19 in-state psychiatric residential treatment facilities (PRTF) were about 25% below cost for state fiscal year (SFY) 2018. During SFY 2018, the Virginia Department of Medical Services (DMAS) reimbursed PRTFs at a maximum per diem rate of $393.50. The overall total PRTF cost per day averaged $465.32, with a median of $463.88. On average, the cost per day exceeded the DMAS rates by $102.
