Making The Justice System Just For Consumers With I/DD
Two million—that is the current number of inmates in the U.S criminal justice system—comprised of federal, state, and local jails, military prisons, civil commitment centers, state psychiatric hospitals, and prisons (see Mass Incarceration: The Whole Pie 2022). I knew the number was high. But, I didn't realize that 38% of that population have at least one disability (see Disabilities Reported by Prisoners: Survey of Prison Inmates, 2016).
