Adverse Neurodevelopmental Diagnosis Rates Higher Among Children With Prenatal COVID-19 Exposure

The incidence of adverse neurodevelopmental disorders among children born to women who contracted COVID-19 while pregnant was higher than among children whose mothers did not contract COVID-19 during pregnancy, a recent study found. By age three, 16.3% of children with prenatal COVID-19 exposure were diagnosed with an adverse neurodevelopmental disorder, compared to 9.7% of children whose mothers did not contract COVID-19 while pregnant with them. The odds of having a neurodevelopmental disorder were 1.29 times higher among children exposed to COVID-19 in utero.
