Audit Finds Abuse & Neglect At Louisiana State I/DD Care Facilities
An audit by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor (LLA), of intermediate care facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities (ICFs) found major deficiencies related to abuse and neglect. The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) monitors ICF compliance with requirements through periodic inspection surveys. LDH conducts an initial survey when an ICF opens, then conducts a recertification survey at least once every 15 months. In fiscal year 2023, 501 facilities served approximately 4,122 residents in Louisiana.
According to the audit, the ICF facilities reported more than 4,000 incidents of actual or alleged abuse and neglect during fiscal years 2019 through 2023 . . .
