On October 5, 2020, a federal district court judge issued a temporary restraining order to prevent the State of New York from revoking faith-based New Hope Family Services’ (New Hope) authorization to place children for adoption while its lawsuit against the state proceeds. New Hope sued the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) on December 6, 2018, over the state’s ultimatum that New Hope agree to work with foster and adoptive parents, including same sex couples, who do not meet New Hope’s definition of parents.
