Federal regulators have cited the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Midtown for violating patient rights and several patient safety and hospital management regulations related to a January 2018 incident considered "patient dumping". In the incident, a woman was discharged from the UMMC Midtown emergency department to the street wearing just a hospital gown. The woman came to UMMC due for treatment for a head wound after falling off a motorbike, and resisted being discharged once treated; UMMC nurses asked hospital security to intervene. The woman also has a history of mental health issues.
