Nebraska Reduces I/DD Waiting List By 75%, From 2,700 In 2024 To 700 In 2025

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has reduced the number of people on its waiting list for intellectual/developmental disability (I/DD) home- and community-based services (HCBS) waiver slots by 75% compared to March 2024. In March 2024, there were 2,706 people on the waiting list, and as of April 30, 2025, there were 700. About 69% of those on the original waiting list were age 21 or younger, and the remaining 31% were age 22 and older. DHHS anticipates that by October 2025, the waiting list will be eliminated.
