New California Law Requires Counties To Review Housing Plans For Foster Youth Exiting The System; Goal Is To Prevent Homelessness
On January 2, 2022, a new California law will require counties to review housing plans for foster youth exiting the system and present the plans to a judge before youth can exit the system. The goal is to prevent homelessness among foster youth who age out. Previously, state law did not require counties to collect and present information about foster youth’s housing plan.
The new law is California Assembly Bill 546; it was signed on October 6, 2021. It adds to the responsibilities of the county welfare department at the last regularly scheduled review hearing held before a dependent . . .
