The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (PA DOC) is currently identifying and approving inmates to participate in a new "Inmate Fire Fighting Program." This program’s goal is to provide inmates with the skills and certification to obtain a fire fighter position (whether volunteer or paid) upon release from prison. A maximum of 14 individuals will be accepted for each program class offered.

According to a representative at the PA DOC, any interested and qualified inmates can be considered for this new program. To participate, inmates must not have a conviction of arson, or a history of any sexual assault.
