Texas Juvenile Justice Department Launches New Program To Rehabilitate Juvenile Offenders
On June 1, 2018, the new Executive Director of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD), Camille Cain, announced a new program focused on more successfully rehabilitating juvenile offenders. The program has a single short-term goal, "Reset," which focuses on the stabilization of operations with the goal of facility safety. The program has two statewide long-term goals, called "Reform" and "Refocus." The "Reform" activities concentrate on improving the environments and interventions for youth, increasing the involvement of families and support system. The "Refocus" activities concentrate on looking at the juvenile detention system as a whole.
