On February 6, 2019, the Texas Health and Human Services released an addendum to its plan to redesign and improve the state psychiatric hospital system. The plan emphasizes academic partnerships and improving behavioral health service delivery. Goals of the effort include ensuring health care consumer safety, ensuring care in appropriate settings, expanding the state's maximum-security capacity, and decreasing waiting lists.
