Virtual Program Increases Access To Geriatric Abuse Assessments

During its first year of implementation, the virtual TEAM-Forensic Assessment Center Network (TEAM-FACN) program in Texas increased access to geriatric abuse assessments and treatment by geriatric experts affiliated with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Before TEAM-FACN launched the TEAM Institute received about 100 referrals annually from a single Adult Protective Services (APS) region. During its first year, TEAM-FACN completed more than 500 referrals from Texas APS caseworkers, compared to its previous annual average of 100 referrals a year. All 11 APS districts had used the program.
